About 105.5 The Moon Radio
105.5 The Moon Radio is a community-driven broadcast station based in Salem, Oregon, specializing in the alternative genre. This non-profit station operates on a 100-watt transmitter in South Salem, offering a breath of fresh air for listeners who want to escape the repetition of corporate radio. Because it is funded entirely by listener donations through PayPal and Venmo, the station stays commercial-free, meaning the music never stops for long ad breaks.
Eclectic Sounds and Community Spirit
The music selection is handpicked by a dedicated team of local volunteer DJs who bring their own tastes to the airwaves. Listeners can expect a wide range of sounds, from the distorted energy of pop punk and 90s alternative to the softer, more introspective tones of Midwest Emo and indie folk. For those who love the crackle of physical media, the station features "Area 42," a special block hosted by DJ 42 that focuses exclusively on all-vinyl 7-inch sets. This commitment to handpicked indie rock music in Salem ensures that the community hears tracks that rarely get play on mainstream stations.
Local Programming and Cultural Ties
105.5 The Moon Radio is deeply connected to the Pacific Northwest arts scene. The station often promotes local gems like LAIKA Studios and independent screenings at the Salem Cinema or Elsinore Theatre. It also supports new creative spaces like Venture Hall, making it a hub for local culture. The weekly schedule is packed with variety, including "New Music Monday" and diverse sets from hosts like Zira, Marcie, and DJ Sloan. Whether it is Britt's spooky indie sets or Hannah's rock playlists, there is always something unique playing. This commercial-free community radio experience is built for people who truly love music.
